Mid Air Collision – Helicopter Recovered

The wreckage of a Eurocopter AS 350 (more commonly known as the squirrel in the UK or the A Star in the USA) is recovered from the Hudson River following yesterday’s fatal accident involving a Piper Saratoga light aircraft which is believed to have crashed into the helicopter in mid air.

Early eyewitness accounts have suggested that the pilot of the Saratoga had declared a Mayday after suffering an engine failure.

The light aircraft had three people on board including a young child. The helicopter is believed to have had 6 people on board; it’s pilot and an italian family of 5 people.

There were no survivors in this tragic incident.
